Northeast Middle School

Northeast Middle School educates a diverse group of 7th and 8th grade students from over 20 countries. The school was built in 1925, and closed by the Kansas City (Mo.) Public School District in 2010 as part of a consolidation strategy. It was reopened in 2014 and continues to update assets throughout the site, including, most recently, a roof system that had been installed in the mid-90’s.

The Challenge

The primary challenge facing the Delta team was installing the roof at night, so as not to disturb the education process, and staging materials as they were needed, since there was no secure on-site storage. GAF assisted in the delivery logistics. Tearing off the previous roof down to the concrete deck posed very little challenge, as the roof had simply reached its normal replacement age, and showed no specific water damage or excessive wear. This was all good news to company co-owner Danny Boyle, who had been the foreman for the mid-90’s installation they were replacing.

The Solution

The goal for NorthEast Middle School was to replace their aged roof with a new reliable — but similar — roof system. Over the existing concrete deck, Delta installed EnergyGuard® Polyiso & Tapered Polyiso Insulation, Ruberoid® 20 Smooth Modified Bitumen membrane and Ruberoid® 30 Granule FR, a fire-resistant SBS polymer-modified asphalt surfaced with mineral granules.
